I thought they were very nice chisels but far too heavy for me.

You need to stick to a razor for shaving ... and do it more than once a month  [wink]

Just a question some one might know the answer or tell me I'm talking crap .

I have had my harold & Saxon for a bit now!   On the first day I had them out on site it was dead hot and the sun was shining directly on the leather pouch.    [crying] when I came to get my chisels out  they where wet,  they had started to rust  slightly and looked like they had water marks on them when I wiped the water off  [mad]

So I thought okay maybe the leather is new and it's just sweating moisture.

Now the other day it happend again!  BUT I store 3 of my marble chisels with them now in the pouch  and they where not wet when I took them out of the pouch all 3 where dry But all 6 harold and Saxon ones where wet.

Now my question do certain types of metal cause sweating of the leather or something?  Cus can't make sense of it.

Really angry cus takes ages to clean the chisels so they look nice and shiny and new again.

Can of lynx on them maybe

Yeah prevention would be da solution but wa I am saying is why are they getting water sitting ontop of them in the pouch. And the marple ones didn't?

Also if it was a commen problem people wouldn't use leather pouches would they?  Cus I mean they have a puddle of water sittin on them when I get them out.

Will it not be condensation. I'm guessing marples are lacquered and  Saxon are bare metal.

Wont be that as the backs of the marples wont be laquered

no idea properly weird....... keep them slathered in camelia oil at least the will not rust

What Dean said backs won't be.

The chisels sit in the pouch back up and that's where the water sits.

If it happens again I'll take a picture

thats odd jmb. maybe you are drooling over the fancy ones and not over the marpels

haa  [laughing]

Getting light rust off is easy with chrome polish and an old sock. Works fast and easy.
After removing the rust a light coat of camelia oil will help keeping your tools rust free.

Try another sort of protection case...?

Well I left my chisels in the sun 2 day for few hours!  Unfortunately they must of dried out or something because when I pulled them out the pouch they where dry  but the water has done the damage as you can see in the picture both chisels in the picture have rust on them.
It wasnt dead hot to day I suppose like the other days I left them in the sun maybe thats they maybe weren't still wet and the rust if a lot less than the other times it happened.  Again my marples ones where fine nothing on them.

This was only a few hours in the sun any way . I cant believe this wouldnt be more common especially seen as they are made in a country which has ALOT of sun!

This may be a weird suggestion, but please bare with me.  The metal is not porous or anything special, it it your climate and the leather that is absorbing moisture and then it is condensing on the metal.  Your chisels are more valuable than the leather.  Try saturating just one of your chisel slots with the camellia oil.  Then see if that one reacts differently than the others.  If the leather is saturated with oil it will not be able to absorb the moisture.

I know what your saying and I'll try that thank you.  But why are my Marples not getting damp/wet? In the same leather pouch?  That's what I'm not understanding.

It don't mater just curious really. Thought some might know.

To be fair it won't be keeping them in the Leather pouch for ever because I wanna make something like a foam insert and have them in a sortainer just gotta get of my arse and do it.
