Mafell Mt55c...oooooh!

Their distribution works for me. My local Festool dealer rarely stocks consumables or accessories. One time I stopped in to buy an OF1400 and they didn't have a single accessory for it. I needed an edge guide and rail adapter for that project, so the router sat for 3 days while I waited for these from an online vendor.  Do they stock blades for my TS75, nope, I've got to order these too. Sandpaper for any of my Festool sanders, nope, not a single speck of Granat to be seen. So I have to order all these items online. I use two online vendors for my Festool stuff, one's in Texas and the other is in New Jersey. It's 3 day's for standard shipping from either vendor. Timberwolf's standard shipping is 3 day too so it's a wash on my end.  California is more of a stretch from Maine, 4-5 day shipping depending on where in Cali you are.

Ok guys, don't kill me. someone asked me to post some videos about the Mafell.

Curiosity finally got the better of me on this... I just ordered one of these the other day [big grin].

... If I have the doweller DD40 I can have the same functionality as the Domino plus the LR32 and I am saving money.  You can buy 5 mm cutters and you will cut 2 holes at once, the same guide for the DD40 works as guide for the shelves 32mm system.  So, my DF500 will be on sale soon, with the LR32 rails and attachments for the router.

And that's the beauty of it. You can use any 8 mm shank cutter you fancy up to 16 mm and not be stuck with proprietary ones. If you do one of a kind items, deep customization is important.

Where would you turn if Timberwolf can't help you?

There is a single distributor in USA for festool as well.  Festool USA.  The sales has been given to the independent companies, but the distributor is Festool USA.

These dealers depend on Festool USA.  If Festool USA cannot fix something then they send it to Festool Germany, the same as Mafell.

Can a dealer fix the TS55REQ?  No they cannot.  They depend of what Festool USA says.  I don't see the difference.

This statement is not accurate. All tools are repaired in Canada at our Canadian repair center or in the US at our US repair center. Tools are not ever sent to Germany for repair. That would be crazy with 4-6 1-3 weeks each way.

A dealer could repair any of our tools if they had the technical know how but it may void the warranty. All of our spare parts are available for dealers or customers to order and almost all are stocked here, not ordered on demand from Germany.

4-6 weeks each way to Germany, you guys must be using a paddle boat  [poke]

Everything I've ordered from Timberwolf that wasn't a stock item has been in from Germany in a week.  Heck I've ordered camping gear from an outfit in Esslingen and received it in 3 days, shipping was $8 for that order by the way.

Exactly, the sales is what is available and it is close to the users.  No policies nor repairs.

If you see as an example, the car dealers they have a repair center, in that case I choose what dealer to buy not just for the sale but for the repair capacity.

In this case (festool) all repairs are done in  a single place, so a sales dealer won't help or cannot help by the regulations (warranty).  It is not a reflection of how bad or good is festool it is a fact and how the business model works for festool.

In my IT business, I decided to buy tools that their HQ is in the Netherlands, no one is allowed to sell it or provide support other than them.  I evaluate the risk and pros and I decided to take the risk.  It has nothing to do with distribution, it is based of what the product can offer.

In this case the MT55 saw provides more benefit that problems, remember that I am a hobbyist so I can wait for a repair.

Festool USA has bend back and forward to satisfy NA users, but the fact remains that there is no REQ available.  For some getting a TS75 is good enough, not for me.  I am the user and I decide what works for me, Others decided to wait until they find a solution, that works for them.

Shane know that, I bought a recon tool that had a problem.  I sent it for repair and came as a new one, amazing service, but for me that tool has not equal in the market, therefore Festool is the right choice for me.  In summary, it is up to the user, it doesn't matter what works for me, it won't work for another person.

There's a huge difference, I've got probably two dozen Festool dealers in my UPS ground 1 or 2 day shipping zones. Add in the many online stores and that's an abundance of inventory nearby vs one place I can order Mafell tools and supplies from that is over 3,000 miles away. One bad nor'easter and no one in the US is getting anything Mafell for a few weeks.

I agree, I bought bosh rails from UK and they came in 3 days to my door.

Ha! Oops.  [embarassed] 1-3, typo on the numeric pad.

We know when the carvex was announced and inventory was consumed faster, the dealers emailed everybody that a delayed will happen. Well the delayed if it happen was one day.  That is good service.

If we changed the names and remember 10+ years back, Festool was in the same position.  Festool was unknown to many.  It was years before they were able to build what they are in USA.  Give it time, it will happen, or I just hope.

Not knowing the terms of Timberwolfs distribution agreement or Mafells growth goals and NA strategy, hope is about all there is. BTW, if/when a Mafell needs service does that go to Timberwolf or to EU?

It goes first to Timberwolf tools.  If they are unable to fix it then it goes to Germany.

I finally used it today.  I can only say Wow!!

I don't want to sound like a broken record so I will review them together and I will post it on the Mafell forum.  If you are interested look there next week.

[ Link removed - Shane ]

Definitely my TS55 is for sale, no regrets.

(Fixed the link)

Well, it looks like that I cannot just click on the link, it will open FOG instead of mafell.  You will have to copy the link in a new tab or window to make it work.  Remove "thisliink" from the beginning and end.  I am trying to confuse the software to let me paste the right url.
Last attempt to fix the url.  Remove the spaces and the pasted into the url.
