If the Drill don't fit you must acquit

Good one, but I prefer: If the drill don't ship you must convict!!!  [big grin]

Got a UPS notice with tracking number a few minutes ago, so they are shipping something to me that weighs 19 lbs. Sounds about right.

What discounted price do you think these outdated tools are worth? I figured it was a good idea to just unload the old stock at a deep discount just to make way for the new tools. At what % discount would you choose old stock vs new stock?

Well, to me at least, buying a Festool drill at 64% off retail would be worth it. I'd buy 20 of them at that price. I'm referencing the T-12 set that mcF had listed at $192.28 (retail $535). I ordered one on friday, knowing that it probably wouldn't happen. I received the confirmation email soon after that. This afternoon, I received the call that it had been oversold and therefore not available. Oddly enough, at 5:02 pm EST, I was still able to put one in my online shopping cart and proceed through the entire order process. It amazes me that they did not correct the source of the problem before attempting to deal with the backlash. The poor girl on the phone said she had made "hundreds of calls" since saturday morning telling people that they would not be receiving their orders. I ordered a drill with very low expectations. I'm disappointed, but I received just about what I expected. Had it worked out, it would have been a bonus. Overall, I'm pretty unimpressed with the whole situation. If I quoted someone a cabinet or built-in for an advertised price, I would honor that even if my error cost me money. It would teach me not to make the same mistake again. It's difficult (I presume) to overcome negative publicity.

It's now 10:16 pm EST - They still have the T-12 listed as available for $192.28

McFeely's need to address this issue head on and explain in simple terms what has happened and what they are going to do in the future to prevent this kind of issue.

In accounting terms and in business sales transactions the purchase price of a company is based on revenue established at a baseline date.  One has to wonder if this baseline included this past weekend?

If the new owners of McFeely's are paying attention to their customers, they might want to respond with an email to their customers explaining who received the original "sale" what happened and how they intend to resolve this issue.

I do like McFeely's as a supplier of great fasteners and other tools and I hope they will take care of this issue sooner rather than later.

Assuming that a couple of people do get their 50% discounted drills, it is interesting that Festool let these orders go through. It is my impression that Festool usually limits the discount of discontinued tools to 10% initially then maybe 20% later. A 50% discount would be a big no no if McFeely's wanted to continue being a Festool dealer.

It would be interesting to see when you placed your orders, what you ordered and your personal feedback from McFeelys if any.  Come on let's hear it!  Date and time.

I think once a tool has been discontinued the dealer's allowed to use their discretion on pricing.

I would like to think that, but one of my local authorized dealers in the Chicago area has an MFT 1080 floor model (which has been discontinued for over five years) and he says Festool won't allow him to sell it to me for less than 10% off.  And considering how long he's had it on his floor, I can't imagine he's holding out for someone to pay MSRP minus 10%.

I would agree with you in that our local dealer, Woodcraft, had several discontinued drills and sanders. All of those tools were 10% off. They told me that Festool only allows the 10% off and if they don't sell! they take them back.

Seems that this has run it's course on the McFeely's drill situation.  With the exception of "CC refund received" posts.  There are plenty of posts for others to see what happened and for McFeely's  to take notice if they want to check the forum.  More posts on Festools policies will be purely speculation as Festool does not discuss it's dealership policies.

Well, I ordered the T12-3 drill kit early on Friday and called on Saturday and was indicated that I was one that would be receiving the deal.  Called today to get a tracking number from them and was put on hold.  The gentleman on the phone said I wasn't on the list to get a refund, but he didn't have any other information for me, someone would have to call me back.  After a few hours I received a phone call and was told that the website had an error and oversold.  I let her know that I was told that my order would be filled on Saturday, but she pretty much told me too bad that they had none to ship out.  Should I be angry at Mcfeely's or just let it go.  I fired off an email to the President of Mcfeely's letting them know how much I was disgusted with the entire situation, but it probably won't go anywhere.

Be angry for a moment, but let it go. Nothing to be gained by dwelling on it. Bad marketing decision and followup by McFeely's, mistakes happen, but don't let that be your problem. Move on.

I know I'm not one of the more active members of the forum and I haven't read the ENTIRE 6 page thread on the McFeely's issue, but I'd like to put in a plug for McFeely's. I too saw the email on Friday. I've been saving up for one of the Festool drills for a while. When this appeared I thought it was too good to be true but decided to go for it.

The drill arrived today and I'm more than satisfied. My experience with them hasn't changed since I started buying from them a few years ago.

There are pics on my blog if you're interested.

Thanks for listening.

Glad to hear it worked out for a few of you, I'll feel a lot better when I get my refund back.
