First, to create a email ad takes considerable time and thought.  It is not something somebody just copies and pastes a bunch of pictures together and sends out.  The designer had to have instruction on the items to be sold as well as the pricing.  I doubt that the web designer had much to do with that.  Someone had to tell them what to put on sale and for how much.  You're being VERY generous when you state it might have been a "mistake".  There are a couple of things that happen when the ad goes out.  First, the site gets a tremendous number of hits which helps with their "ranking" with GOOGLE.  If GOOGLE perceives McFeely's as being trustworthy and informative they will move up in the page ranking which is very important.  They rank very high in my area but not in the top 3 in "natural" ranking.  Being in the top 3 is a tremendous advantage, especially #1.  The second thing that comes to my mind has already been mentioned and that is the "float".  It will be interesting to see how long the "credits" appear on you credit card statements.
I can't believe a new company would be so stupid to create these ads and then not follow through.  They only got 1 chance to make a good first impression and whoever is running the company is either really stupid about customer relationships or is completely incompetent.  I have purchased a number of items from them over the years but I will not spend any money with this kind of outfit.

I thought Lab Safety Supply (a subsidiary of W.W. Grainger) bought them back in 2007.

Have they been sold again?

Seven years is plenty of time to work the wrinkles out.

I am not surprised that things are not going well at McFeelys.

The new president has his hands full.

Peter Puttmann Sr.'s Overview

Current

    President/CEO at McFeely's, Inc.
President at WPMA Wood Products Manufacturing Association
    1st Tenor at FSSP

President/CEO at Atlas Dowel / LRP Plastics
President at Puttmann Industries, Inc. Inc.

As for the drills.

There used to be a saying something like, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is"
It still amazes me how loud people will scream when the it is part, is true.

Meh, It's easy to armchair QB this but I have done business with McFeelys for years and I trust(ed) them. If it were a guy in a back alley behind Home Depot flags would have went up... a company I have been dealing with for  close to ten years? I think it was a poor form.

got the phone call!

we should protest in the nearest square to mcfeelys, I'm renting a bus!

Aggravating and ill thought out though this is, I wouldn't write them off. Let's see what the new owners can do.

Grainier used to own them. It does appear it may have been sold again.

A new company purchased McFeelys last year & took over  about 3 months ago. That is one of the reasons they are currently having some issues. It also appears they are now operating out of the Atlas Dowel Works Factory location in Harrison, Ohio.  Harrison is in the Cincinnati, Ohio area & is about 35 miles from where I live.

I do not understand why companies want to hide the fact that it has changed ownership. Also how the new owners thought they were going make this big of a transition without the customers noticing.

+1 JD2720. Put the cards on the table and give the customer a choice. Less likely to have really made customers that way who will run off ten or more  prospective customers each.

Unfortunately many of you jumped on the bandwagon to take advantage of a situation you pretty much knew wouldn't happen!
I myself sure considered it but knew with only 2 of each drill offered that I wouldn't have a shot to get one.
Companies are going through tough times just like we did and are just hanging on so why so many of you are bashing them when you yourself knew ( fat chance ) of winning the lottery.  Yes bad marketing on their part but give them a break.  I have no affiliation with them and actually never purchased from them,

I can only speak for myself.  I am a frequent shopper at Amazon.com.  They will run a count down for the number of items which they have in stock and available to be shipped out.
I have never before purchased from McFeely's, but I was obviously wrong to consider that when they posted that two were available that there were actually none!  McFeely, should be aware of the standard to which Amazon and all of the Festool authorized dealers, whom I have dealt with, keep.

Well I can add to my frustration with McFeely's....not only did they let me buy the T18 once and charge it, they let me buy it twice, unbeknownst to me! AND charged me twice!!! They sent me an email saying both charges were refunded and like NYC I do buy a lot on Amazon so I'm not a knucklehead when it comes to online purchases but geez Louise! Seriously?!?!?!? My credit card is not showing refunds yet so I will wait till tomorrow and call my CC if needed. Never again!!!

I agree. Do not see that they should be written off based on this one instance. People seem to have been happy with their performance before. Let the new owners work on the situation during the work week and see what happens.

The sale started around 6pm last day of the month so maybe they needed a spike in sales for February for some reason.

It might be time to retain Jackie Chiles for a class action suit.

Yes!!!

Let's not get crazy. If my account is credited tomorrow or Tuesday, then I look at it as no harm done.  The deal always seemed to be good too good to be true, anyway.

Okay, so some do not consider McFeely's caused any harm so long as your refunds are credited by 4 March 2014.

However, the United States Attorney see this as online fraud and is investigating.

I'm not so sure I'd fire off a complaint but I am certainly ticked off that a lack of inventory control has essentially tied up $600 on my credit card (second charge i don't know how that hpemed). But I'll wait till Monday afternoon, they said it'll be cleared up first thing but it they could've done something more to fix the problem outside of the ubiqtuous "uh...sorry, I don't know how that happened".
