Next router options

Don't get the trend t10 / t11 or dewalt. (Same machine). I have the T10 and I bloody hate it. Having to find the correct screws for the bushings, the bushing sub base, then realising you can't screw on the dust attachment with the bushing on.....oh god it just goes on and on. I cannot stand it one bit my heart sinks when I realise I have to use the damn thing. The 1400 looks like a dream come true. Tool free, screw free, guide rail attachment. Anything would be better than the T10!!

it's the systems approach of Festool that really makes it worth it.

So if you have the router like the 1400 or 2200, you can later add the MFT table which would allow you to do something like precision stopped dadoes for cabinet shelving, something that is difficult (though not impossible) with just a rail.  And after that, you can add in the LR32 system for shelf pins and hinge hardware.

Speaking of which, if you think you might add this in the future, keep in mind it's only compatible with the 1010 and 1400, not the 2200 -- though theoretically you could still do most of the LR32 work with the 1010, if you still wanted to get the 2200.

Systems approach?

So the rail business works for only 2/3 of their routers.

The 32-mm rail is also available from Bosch.
And if one was serious about 32-mm holes they would probably get a DD40 and the castellated bar which makes the 32-router system look farcical.

I plug a Mafell router into a Festool vac, and I am sure a FT router would plug into a Bosch vacuum. The vacuums do not care - They are system agnostic.

This whole BS about "A System" approach seems a bit overdone on the hype. Maybe it was true a few years ago, but everyone is doing their own systems now.
(Sys-lite, Sys-tainer,Sys-Admin, Sys-ter-hood Sys-tem of a down.)

Back to the OP.
It is either a blessing or a curse to add a 1/2 router to the mix. You open up more bits so the 1400 or a Makita make sense. - But then you may need to buy bits.

If you are just getting one so you do not have reset the depth, then I suppose a matching 1010 is ergonomically wise. Or for trim work a small Makita?

Or get a big router and a table, but you have not needed that so far.
