For over 3 years I've been fighting the issue of the plug-it falling out.  I did find a thread which indicated that the plug may not be correctly rotated.  Went in the shop this a.m. and inserted plug-it gave it a firm twist beyond where I would stop before and it rotated a bit further and now it has stayed in place.  Saw this on another thread somewhere, but thought I would pass this on so someone would not have to endure what I did for the past 3 years.  Thank you FOG.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

Glad you found the solution. You should check the terminal pins and the Plug-It cord socket for any signs of a burned or greenish color. A loose connection on these can cause failure. And if connecting the cord to other tools it will actually spread to them. The fix is easy if the problem shows up. It is easy to replace the tool side connection, and the cord should also be replaced.

Push plug-it in firmly, twist in direction of arrow and stop at black line. Yes black on black . If you go past black line you will begin to unlock it. Don't just drink the green kool-aid. Inspect it first. MARK

This is not correct on both parts: 1) you do turn the locking ring only one direction, and 2) it will lock and not turn further once it has reached the locked position.

You may want to double check your own procedure in the shop to make sure you haven't been doing this all along, as the OP pointed out as a PSA.

Rick, With all due respect-My plug-it, that has the black end, heavier rated, will continue to twist and unlock. Is my plug-it faulty? Thanks, MARK

Yes, if you are able to continue to rotate your plug-it connector all the way around, it it probably broken. There are little L-shaped tabs inside the ring, and if the connector was forced at some time in the past, it could have broken the leg so it is just I-shaped.

Try a different cord and see if it behaves the same way.

My RO 150 had a melting issue and it was caused from just the opposite, I did not twist it enough to lock in.

Generally, the burning comes from not having the plug fully locked. In your special case there could have been burning because it wasn't locked by turning it past the lock (assuming the broken tabs mentioned above).

Sanders are the most prone for the problem because they are vibrating for a long period of time. No matter how secure the connection, a vibrating electrical connection will have very tiny arcing as the connection is briefly broken. This arcing both causes heat and causes tiny pitting in the brass/copper pins.
