Tool Snob Carvex Review

Also, in that video on your page, at about 1:14 I'd swear that looks like a flat base set at an angle, maybe it's a camera angle/lens distortion that's fooling my eye.

I think that's some kind of parallax or trick of the lens...

I don't know if it's an oversight in the catalog or a change in the scope of delivery (possibly temporary) but all of the Kits I've sent out had the StickFix (hook & loop) base plus 5 felts. That combination isn't mentioned in the catalog.

Remember that our catalog is put together around this time of year for the upcoming year. So, it is produced with the best information that we have at the time. There was a change to the scope of delivery between the creation of the catalog and the time the product was introduced. The correct scope of delivery is as follows:

Includes dimpled base plate (497 298), hard fiber base plate (497 299), StickFix base insert (497 301), metal cutting base plate (497 300), angle base (496 134), guide rail base (497 303), circle cutter (497304), five splinterguards (490 120), five pack of felts (497444), and Systainer SYS 2 T-LOC.

No frustration what so ever. Everyone needs to make a choice based on their needs.

I totally agree...
We are so lucky that Festool lets us try out their tools for 30 days , I got to play with the Carvex this weekend cutting some 3/4", 1-1/2" stock and I really like it a lot , I like the fixed plate , (my old Cordless Dewalt kept moving on me)The "A" speed and the light are a great feature, I will get the Circle cutter and that's it,I don't need the other plates, the only thing I'm debating is if I should return it and wait for the cordless  to come out because it seems that with the cord and the hose attached it will slow down the work process.maybe because I'm used to a cordless jigsaw, Its just easier to maneuver without a cord.

I have used both the corded and the cordless and (as I said in the thread: http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tool-reviews/festool-carvex-420-(both-mains-and-battery-powered)-comparisons/ ) I chose the cordless.  I think that it is worth waiting for.

You don't get to return the accessory kit.

That's important if you buy it and then find out that you can't cut a bevel in the middle of a panel. I'll hold off until a standard bevel base is made part of the kit or offered separately. Imagine if the TS55 could only bevel on the edge - wouldn't that be considered a limitation? I wonder if the gearing could be changed to allow it to work as a standard beveling base.

Thanks for verifying the scope of delivery change! I suspected that...

Is the approximate time of release to the US for the cordless version still this fall 2013? Thanks.

The most recent info I have is that we should see it before the end of the year. Beyond that, no exact date yet.

Good luck with that!  [huh] I could see coping with that base some standard crown or base, although I don't know how it would feel in the hand. But scribing with that for nearly 3 feet when its a finished cherry face frame, no thanks. Plus, you can't scribe cabinets from the under side due to the carcass being there.
