Looking for some advice on OF1400EBQPlus

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to the site and this is my first post so go easy on me ;D .

Basically I'm looking to buy a OF1400 as a good quality mid range router (I currently have non-Festool large 1/2" and 1/4" which will be replaced with Festool when/if they die) what I wanted to know is do Festool make a 16mm guide bush ( copying ring) as my current door jigs require 16mm bush with a 12mm router bit?

If not, does anyone have some suggestions?

Nope. Closest Festool has is a 17mm one and the next smaller is a 13.8mm.

Dunno if this would help, but Axminster has a Leigh-adapter for some bushings: Guidebush Adaptor

If they don't just use another combination of bush and cutter to give you the same offset.

You can get the 16mm guide bush  [big grin] i use one for the of1400 for the trend hinge jig..

By the sounds of it you're using a Trend hinge jig.  The simple no cost solution is to use the 17mm Festool copy ring and instead of using the 4mm spacer that comes with the hinge jig use a 5mm one (I use a 5mm drill bit.  The set-up and use of the jig is as normal.   I've used this method for years with perfect results.

Thanks very much for all your great feedback guys! You guessed I'm using the trend hinge jig. So it looks like I'll soon be the proud owner of a OF1400. What's your views on the machine itself?

If I had a lot of money I'd rather have the 2200 and a 1010 to have optimal tools for different uses, but the 1400 does everything in a descently average way.

Nothing wrong with the 1400, but would love to have a 2200 in my CMS semipermanently and a 1010 for hand held operations for the size & weight.

If you're only purchasing one router, the 1400 is the one that can do just about everything except swing large large bits.  Given the fact that it can take 1/4", 1/2" & 8mm bits makes it a good all around router. I tend to reach for the 1010 for all of my light uses just because the lighter weight is nice but I do like the 1400 a lot as well. I don't own a 2200 but I'm a small dude and that router seems darn heavy for above the table use for me!

I have the 1400 and find it an excellent router. I use it for all handheld router jobs and to date its never let me down.

I can understand the comments on the 1010 and 2200, but already having a Porta Cable in my router table, I felt that the 1400 offered more options than the 1010.
Having said that one day I might get that one as well.
I'm sure you won't be disappointed with you new toy.
